Once upon a time, the only type of filling on offer was the conspicuous amalgam (metal) filling, which didn’t exactly blend in with teeth! Today, many patients prefer to opt for a more cosmetic choice, and those with amalgam fillings often have these replaced with white fillings.
Like traditional fillings, white fillings support a tooth that sustains a cavity, once the decayed matter has been removed.
Examination: we will perform a thorough examination of your mouth, during a routine appointment, to pick up on any problems that require attention.
Cleaning: the decayed matter is removed, exposing the cavity. This is then disinfected and prepared for the filling material to be applied. Unlike in the case of a traditional filling, the composite resin can be bonded to the tooth like an adhesive, preserving more of your natural tooth.
Filling: the filling material is applied and your dentist will check your bite is comfortable and smooth off the surface of the filling.
