Gum disease (Periodontitis) is a condition caused by the inflammation of the supporting structures of your teeth. It is caused by bacteria that have been allowed to accumulate in between your teeth and gums.
As gum disease progresses, the bone that holds your teeth in position starts to shrink, and over time, your teeth become loose and eventually fall out. If diagnosed and treated early, gum disease can be treated with professional intervention and excellent oral hygiene.
Gum disease can often be silent and go unnoticed for a long time. The main early sign of gum disease is bleeding when brushing your teeth. If gum disease progresses, you may notice your teeth getting loose, moving or causing pain.
During your Exmaiantion and hygiene appointments, we will always screen for gum disease by checking how healthy they are and how strongly they are attached to your teeth.
Your treatment depends on how extensive your gum disease is. If you have minor gum disease (Gingivitis), then a single appointment with the hygienist and some thorough brushing at home may be enough to stabilise your gums.
If you have established gum disease (periodontitis), you will require further intervention with our clinicians.
Your specific treatment will be tailored to your needs. However, a common treatment pathway involves
In most cases, as long as you follow your clinician’s instructions, this is enough to stabilise your gum disease, and you can move on to regular maintenance visits with your hygienist every 3-6 months.
In some cases, we may need to carry out another course of ‘deep cleaning’ or refer you to a periodontal socialist.
A single session with the hygienist costs between £95 and £120 which is suitable for mild gingivitis and gum maintenance.
We offer two levels of non-surgical periodontal treatment for advanced gum disease with our hygienists
Localised periodontitis – £595
Includes all care for localised, site-specific gum disease.
Generalised periodontitis – £895
Comprehensive treatment for more widespread gum disease.
If further deep cleaning is needed beyond the first course, additional sessions can be added (£350–£450 depending on severity), and we’ll always advise you beforehand.
Specialist consultations – £160
If your gum disease is very severe or if you have complicating factors due to your medical health or any other reason, you may be advised to see our Gum Disease expert Dr Neha Kansagra who is about to become a registered specialist this year.
We understand that dental treatments can sometimes feel confusing, especially when it comes to gum health. One common area of misunderstanding is the difference between a routine hygiene clean and treatment for gum disease (also known as periodontal disease). At Innovadent, we aim to be transparent about what each involves and how our pricing works.
Routine hygiene appointments (45 or 60 minutes) are designed to maintain a healthy mouth. These sessions include scaling above the gum line, polishing with AirFlow, removing staining, and providing tailored oral hygiene advice. It’s an essential part of preventing problems, but it does not treat gum disease that has already developed.
Gum disease treatment, on the other hand, is for patients with active periodontitis—a more serious condition that affects the structures supporting your teeth. This requires a deeper level of care, called non-surgical periodontal management, which includes removing bacteria from beneath the gum line (subgingival cleaning), monitoring gum health, and ensuring proper healing with regular reviews.
Many clinics charge periodontal treatment per appointment or per quadrant, which can make it hard to know the full cost upfront. At Innovadent, we do things differently. We offer a complete care package at a set fee, so you know exactly what you’re getting and what you’re paying for.
Our packages are built to deliver gold-standard care, not just a surface clean. Each fee includes:
Detailed gum assessments (6-point pocket charting)
Deep subgingival cleaning (debridement)
Personalised oral hygiene instruction
Interdental brushes
Review and reassessment appointments to track healing
All required anaesthetics
This approach allows us to focus on the best clinical outcomes, not how many minutes are on the clock. You receive a full course of care designed to get your gum health back on track—and our clinicians are able to dedicate the right amount of time and attention throughout.
If you have any questions about gum disease or need help deciding what your next should be, don’t hesitate to contact us; our team will be glad to help.
