It’s always our goal to protect your teeth from warranting an extraction wherever possible.

However, in some cases extracting a tooth is the best option for ensuring your dental health is stabilised.

We may recommend a tooth extraction if a tooth has sustained serious damage, your wisdom teeth have become impacted, you’re suffering from extensive decay or advanced gum disease, or where a root canal has failed. Leaving an unhealthy tooth in place can cause the development of other dental problems, so it’s important that you see us right away if you’re experiencing any symptoms that don’t feel normal.

What to expect from a tooth extraction

Losing even just one of your natural teeth can be a tough prospect, particularly for nervous patients. The InnovaDent Dental Clinic team have worked with many patients who are either nervous, or upset at the thought of losing a tooth. If this sounds familiar to you, please don’t suffer in silence. Examination: the tooth in question is closely examined, and we will check if its condition is affecting the health of neighbouring teeth.

Preparation: the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, which numbs the area in order to help you to feel comfortable throughout.

Removing the tooth: the tooth is then carefully removed, and a stitch may be applied to the empty tooth socket, to promote healthy healing.

How will having a tooth extracted benefit me?

• Any unpleasant symptoms will subside not long after the procedure.
• If an infection is present, once the tooth is removed this will no longer have the potential to spread to other teeth.
• Your general health will benefit.
• In some cases, we may need to extract one or more teeth, so that you can undergo orthodontic treatment, for a straighter and healthier smile in the future.
